Independent reviews · honest verdicts

About this site

personalfinanceapp.net is an independent publication reviewing personal finance and budgeting apps. Every review is based on hands-on testing with real bank accounts and real transaction history.

The site exists because the top 5 SERP results for "best personal finance app" all have the same structural problem: they're optimised for affiliate click-through in year 1, not for helping you find the app you'll still be using in year 5. The decision wizard, the switching cost calculator, and the editorial framing here are all built around the 5-year fit question.

What we are and aren't

  • We are: an independent publication that tests apps and publishes honest verdicts, including negative ones.
  • We are not: regulated financial advisers. Reviews are based on testing and primary-source documentation, not professional financial advice. For personal advice, see MoneyHelper (UK, free, government-backed) or a CFP-Board-certified planner (US).
  • We earn commissions: when you sign up via affiliate links. This does not affect scores or editorial positions. See our affiliate disclosure policy.

Editorial standards

  • Every numeric claim has a source link in the same sentence or footnote. No "studies show" without naming the study.
  • Prices are verified against vendor pricing pages on the date shown in each review.
  • We name apps that lose our test comparisons. We do not suppress negative verdicts because of affiliate relationships.
  • We do not use credentialed financial advisers as reviewers. Instead, citation depth (minimum 3 primary sources per claim block) substitutes for credential per our editorial policy. This is disclosed prominently on every YMYL page.
